The European AI Startup Landscape

The appliedAI Institute for Europe's vision is to be the open-access accelerator for the application of trustworthy AI. It has been founded to empower professionals with knowledge, tools, and skills to develop and apply the latest AI technologies responsible as well as shaping a future that we desire to live in. The mission is to empower people to develop and use trustworthy AI within a strong ecosystem of organizations and individuals by creating tools for application, operational and technological competence, by dissemination activities to build initial understanding, to foster specific expertise, and to broaden skills and strengthening society and talent in applying trustworthy AI.

Ignite Sweden is a non-profit initiative that aims to foster innovation and accelerate the commercialization of startup innovations by connecting startups to large companies and public organizations. Since its start in spring 2017, Ignite has facilitated over 7000 tailored matchmaking meetings connecting 1600+ startups with more than 375 corporates and public organizations, resulting in 610+ commercial paid collaborations. Ignite Sweden is led by SISP – Swedish Incubators and Science Parks and co-funded by Vinnova - Sweden’s innovation agency and Energimyndigheten - the Swedish Energy Agency.

AI Sweden is the Swedish National Center for applied Artificial Intelligence, supported by the Swedish government and the public and private sectors across the country. The mission is to increase the use of AI for the benefit of our society, Swedish competitiveness, and for everyone living in Sweden.To achieve this, AI Sweden runs projects of national interest in areas such as information-driven healthcare, AI solutions for the Swedish language, data-driven journalism, and AI to help tackle climate change. The center provides targeted training for partners and the general public. The Data Factory enables partners to AI Sweden to make available and access data and make use of computing power and storage capacity in AI projects.

Vinnova is Sweden’s innovation agency. We help to build Sweden's innovation capacity, contributing to sustainable growth. Our vision is that Sweden is an innovative force in a sustainable world. We help to build Sweden’s innovation capacity, contributing to sustainable growth. We base our work on the global sustainability development goals of the 2030 Agenda adopted by the United Nations. We identify areas where our efforts can make a difference, and we create opportunities and incentives for organisations to work together to meet important societal challenges.

The Hub France IA is a non-profit association federating the French AI ecosystem with the objective of supporting this ecosystem to develop and industrialise AI in France and Europe. We were born in 2017 following the "France IA" work of the Cabinet of Axelle Lemaire, former Secretary of State for Digital and Innovation. This work focused on producing reports on AI in France, ranging from ethics to technology transfer. This makes us a privileged interlocutor of political actors on the subject. We have about 120 members (startups, large groups, institutions with AI projects) gathered within the association to develop operational projects. Our action follows 3 main axes: the management of working groups, the piloting of projects structuring the AI ecosystem and the valorisation of the ecosystem's actors.

The Netherlands AI Coalition (NL AIC) is a public-private partnership in which the government, the business sector, educational and research institutions, as well as civil society organizations collaborate to accelerate and connect AI developments and initiatives. The ambition is to position the Netherlands at the forefront of knowledge and application of AI for prosperity and well-being. We are continually doing so with due observance of both the Dutch and European standards and values. The NL AIC functions as the catalyst for AI applications in our country.
